Baek Moon Kim was converted by Kim Nam Jo ("The Prophetess of Chongjin") who was a member of the Jesus Church. He founded the Israel Monastery (Israel Jesus Church) in 1945 near Seoul. Israel Monastery was closely bound to the Jesus Church and the Wilderness Church in Pyongjang. Sun Myung Moon was a follower of Kim, Baek Moon from the end of 1945 until mid-1946. After that he left with Kim and other followers to North Korea to meet Pak Wol Yong. According to Unification Church teaching Kim was in the position of John the Baptist in relation to Moon as Jesus.

Kim never acknowledged Moon as messiah. His teaching corresponds with Moon's teachings to the degree that many scholars believe that Moon actually plagiarized Kim's teachings. Kim's earlier teachings are found in two books: "Theology of the Holy Spirit" and "The Fundamental Principle". In the 1980's Kim still had a small congregation in Seoul. Some scholars suspect that Kim practised pikareun ceremonies, as was usage in many other branches of the Jesus Church.
