As the son of Jose Augusto Mas Marti and Livita Alvarez Frank, Raymond was born on March 10th, 1952, in New York, and grew up on Long Island.

Raymond Mas joined the Unification Church in 1971 in Washington, D.C..

He was sent by the Unification Church to Bolivia, as the country’s first American missionary, and served throughout Central Africa and Uruguay.

Raymond Mas and his wife Irma Mass were blessed by Sun Myung Moon and are part of the 2075 blessed couples. They have 3 children.

They were assigned as national messiahs to Turkey, where they lived for many years.

For several years he worked as a Current Issues editor for The World & I magazine.

Throughout his life he remained a passionate advocate of human rights and religious freedom . During the span of his career, Raymond aligned himself with numerous peace resolution initiatives. His career as both a journalist and peace builder, led him to work for the International Coalition for Religious Freedom, where he remained dedicated to defending religious freedom of all. He promoted the Ambassadors for Peace network, and was a hands-on Program Director for the Middle East Peace Initiative.

An avid reader, Raymond favored books that were historical, biographical, and on the topic of civil rights. Abraham Lincoln was one of his favorite people to read about.

Raymond suffered a stroke in 2010 which led to numerous health conditions, and resulted in him being in and out of hospitals and rehabilitation centers for several years.

Raymond Mas died on February 11th, 2017.
